2010 Bird Riesling

Exciting, Vibrant, Alluring

Bird 2010 RieslingCellaring: 5-7 years
Production: 400 cases

Tasting Note:
Beautiful aromas of ripe lime and lemon with strong floral overtones. The palate has a wonderful mineral back bone draped with hints of apple and melon. This is a succulent mouth filling Riesling with astonishing weight and a dry clean finish derived from the perfect balance between fruit and acidity.

Vinification:
The key to preserving the delicate fruit aroma of this Riesling was a long cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The use of specialist yeast strains has enhanced the structure and complexity. A minimalist handling regime and early bottling have ensured the wine retains its freshness and youthful exuberance.

The Vintage:
A near perfect growing season for Riesling, the 2010 vintage is perhaps the best season in almost 3 decades. Flowering conditions were ideal with a good strong fruit set giving us plenty of choice when it came time to thin the crop. While not as warm as the previous two harvests, 2010 was sunny and dry giving rise to slower more consistent ripening and the development of intense varietal characters in all the aromatic wines.

Food Match:
Shellfish, salads, and delicately flavoured dishes will be best suited to this wine. There is sufficient acidity to accommodate light cream sauces. Green lip mussels or even the more intensely sweet flavours of crayfish and lobster will match well with the luscious mid palate characters of this wine.
